I recently had the honor of attending a presentation by Mauvé Page, during which she provided her views regarding the visual appeal and aesthetics of websites. Motivated by her guidance, I set out to examine my own website as well as other websites I regularly visit in order to extract important insights about what makes a website visually appealing and what doesn’t. I’ll discuss my thoughts and the main lessons I learned from this interesting event in this process post.
Understanding Visual Hierarchy:
Mauvé highlighted how crucial visual hierarchy is for directing users’ gaze and setting information priorities on a website. Using this approach, I went back and reviewed my own website’s structure and design to make sure that important components like the read more buttons, navigation menu, and titles are clearly visible and accessible.
Embracing White Space:
One other important lesson to be learned from Mauvé’s lecture was the need of white space in web design for achieving harmony and balance. Upon examining other websites that I often visit, I saw how the thoughtful application of white space can boost the user experience overall, increase readability, and facilitate navigation. By simplifying the design and giving the information more room to breathe, I applied this knowledge to my own website to create a more aesthetically pleasant look.
Consistency in Typography:
Mauvé emphasized the need of typographic consistency in preserving visual coherence and building an effective brand identity. Through the analysis of several websites, I discovered that consistent typographic choices enhance readability and brand awareness. Taking this advice to heart, I improved the clarity and visual identity of my brand by maintaining consistency in the font used on my website’s headers, body text, and other parts.
Leveraging Color Schemes:
A captivating feature of Mauvé’s lecture was her exploration of the application of color schemes in web design to generate feelings and communicate ideas. I saw how users’ views and interactions are influenced by color selections when I thought back on my own website and other websites I visit. To strike a balance between aesthetics and practicality, I experimented with different color schemes on my website in order to elicit the right emotions and match the personality of my brand.
Conclusion:
I learned quite a bit about the technical side of website aesthetics from Mauvé Page’s lecture, which inspired me to review and improve the look of my own website while giving me a better grasp of what makes a website effective and ineffective. Through the implementation of design concepts like visual hierarchy, typographic consistency, white space, and color scheme, I’ve managed to produce a more aesthetically pleasing and intuitive browsing experience for my target audience. I appreciate the information and ideas I received from Mauvé’s experience as I work to improve and refine my website.
VERY APPEALING WEBSITE!!!
