As a photographer on social media analytical data about my followers is crucial for understanding what viewers want to see. Without analytical data I wouldn’t be able to adjust my content according to the Instagram user base, which would have a substantial and negative impact on the performance of my page.
Although analytics and online data collection pose their own issues, they also bring with them a lot of good. Kind of like a double-edged sword, data collection can be looked at as both an invasion of privacy or as a quality-of-life booster. Without data collection social media and the internet in general would not be enjoyable, as you would often see content you didn’t intent/want to see. This is why data collection, and analytics are so crucial in today’s world.
I personally use the data that Instagram collects on my followers and people who interact with my posts to adjust my content, see what people like or dont like, and ensure that whatever I post reaches the audience that I intended for it to reach. This not only makes my posts more interesting for my existing audience, but also helps me reach a wider audience and expand my reach.
By having an audience’s analytical data available for social media creators, it allows the creator greater control over their audience base. This can be very powerful and often saves creators from failure.
